If you are a regular reader of our blogs or you follow us on social media, then you probably know we have a long-lasting partnership with Acer Bulgaria. For quite some time now, our designers have been using two of their ConceptD portable workstations to create beautiful sketches and detailed 3D models anywhere they go. A capability that has greatly enhanced our workflow and has allowed us to progress on multiple fronts at the same time.

Unfortunately, much like all the other hardware in our headquarters, the kit from Acer was completely destroyed during the fire that took place on April 14, 2021. It was a huge hit for us and one that we would have needed a good bit longer to recover from if it wasn’t for companies like Acer Bulgaria, who offered a helping hand in a time when we needed it the most.

In the immediate aftermath of these tragic events, we got in touch with Acer who were willing to grant us another one of their ConceptD laptops for our design team. In addition, they’ve also lent us a 24″ ConceptD monitor that we utilize for our internal photo and video editing needs as it has both high resolution and extremely accurate colours.

If you happen to be in the field of design, 3D modelling, photo or video editing and you are looking at getting yourself a light portable do-it-all machine, these will prove very useful to you.

What we are going to focus on in this article, however, is the ConceptD monitor itself. It is the CM2241W and it features a 24-inch screen which is perfect for most office uses, especially when part of a dual monitor setup. When looking at the specs, many people may say that the resolution is on the lower end, however, if you are in this field of work, you’d know that more often than not previews and replays are downscaled to allow faster editing. Thus a full-HD screen will be more than enough in almost all applications. And in case that still bothers you, you can always opt-in for the 4K option.

The more important qualities in our case are the viewing angle, colour calibration tools and colour accuracy, which we will rate in the same order. Being able to view the screen from various angles without any noticeable difference in brightness, colour or contrast is important to us, as quite often we have several people evaluating footage on the same computer. And with this monitor, we haven’t been able to observe much of a change even at some extreme angles.

Then there is the capability of the monitor to allow external colour calibration to achieve the most precise brightness and colours in any environment or lighting situation. The Acer offers an option to have custom presets in sRGB, Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 as well as the standard pre-programmed settings for gaming, movies, etc. On top of that, you can also have up to two sets of parameters acquired through calibration.

All of the abovementioned perks are hugely important for creatives like us and make the Acer products stand out of the competition. If you are on the lookout for high-end professional hardware you could not possibly go wrong with the ConceptD line.
