So, if you’ve been following us closely you will already know who we are and what we do. Chances are, however, that this is the very first time that you hear about Kinetik Automotive, so here is a quick intro to get you up to speed. We are a boutique carmaker and we craft limited edition electric sports cars for the track. Our story began in early 2016 when we decided to convert a Lotus 7 to run on electricity. As with many projects of this scale, ours went through a series of major alterations which we will cover in a future blog post.
Long story short, we almost completely changed our minds and instead, decided to build an electric track car and the only part that we were going to use out of the Lotus 7 was the open-source chassis. The exterior, interior, infotainment system, software and powertrain would all be of our design and making. Sounds like an impossible goal to achieve? Yeah, we’ve heard that plenty enough. Despite that, not for one moment did we think of giving up. Fast forward to October 2019 – having overcome many difficulties along the way – we debuted а fully working prototype of our Model 07 at the John Atanasoff Innovation Forum in Sofia.
Being a small and independent brand within the colossal automotive industry has certainly presented us with some truly peculiar challenges and will continue to do so. That being said, it has also granted our team of designers and engineers creative freedom that can hardly be matched by any of the big manufacturers. We were able to go from a vision to a rolling chassis in less than 3 months and had a working prototype in under two years! These are incredibly short product development times especially considering the fact that back then Kinetik wasn’t our full-time occupation. We managed to achieve such impressive results thanks to a lot of hard work, devotion and the magic of the latest rapid prototyping techniques.
As most of you could probably guess by now, our process of manufacturing is very unique and dynamic. It differs greatly from the production lines and large factories that have become synonymous with car building since the time of the Ford Model T. Instead, we see it as an updated and slightly futuristic take on the classic art of coachbuilding. We take our time individually crafting each vehicle, thus making sure that all units meet the exact requirements set by the customers. As a result, owners of the Model 07 will be certain that their electric sports car is not only a formidable track weapon but a one-off work of art too.
So, by subscribing to the Kinetik Automotive newsletter, you will get the chance to stay in touch with all the latest developments concerning our brand. You can also expect to see weekly articles on topics such as the history and production of the Model 07, the process of constructing our own battery packs or the workflow that makes this whole thing possible. You can also follow us on Linkedin, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, where we are going to be sharing exclusive backstage footage and other regular updates.
